Brainspotting

A recent revolutionary therapeutic approach for rapid and effective change. It not only facilitate deep trauma processing, the neuro-experiential approach also supports in optimizing performance, creativity, spiritual and personal expansion.

Brainspotting is a bottom-up approach that has evolved out of EMDR (Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing). The approach helps with trauma processing both in life and in sports along with personal and creativity expansion work, discovered in 2003 by David Grand, PhD.

David was working with a 16-year-old figure skater who had blockages of performing a triple loop. After a year of intense session, one day during the session when she was tracking his finger crossing her visual field David noticed the young athlete's subtle eye wobbling while looking at a specific eye position, he intuitively stopped his hand and held her gaze. The action led to an unexpected profound healing: new memories that have never emerged prior such as childhood trauma and countless sports injuries flowed out with intense waves of emotions. Both of them left the session confused not knowing what had just happened. However the next day David received a call from the excited athlete that she had just performed a triple loop flawlessly for the very first time, and she never had the same issue since.

Today Brainspotting uses the field of vision to locate Brainspots that correlate with relevance to inner emotional experience: "Where you look affects how you feel". And by maintaining eye fixation, it leads to healing and discharge of the activation that are held deeply in the non-cognitive areas of the neurophysiology powerfully and effectively. This approach bypasses the thinking brain, reach the memory capsule in the subcortical brain where the traumatic event was held and unprocessed, disrupts the negative experiences, promotes coherence between sympathetic and parasympathetic activation in the brain. In personal expansion work, it strengthens positive neural networks, fast track client’s ability to manifest their deepest dreams and desires.

In a Brainspotting session, the client will be guided to find relevant Brainspots, guided by a pointer, reveal and process what is underneath the triggers and blockages. Together with the practitioner, fast forwarding the client’s desired change and transformation, hope and desired states of being.
